Thanks for the reminder, little one.

Rebekah woke up with a 101.7 temp today and had been fussy for the last 48 hours...and had been tugging on her left ear constantly, so we took her to the doctor this afternoon. Turns out her ears are fine and they are guessing it's some sort of virus. Not really the point of my story, although the poor thing is still miserable as her temp shot up even higher after her afternoon non-nap nap :-/ I'll keep an eye on it. Anyway...

We are waiting in the exam room and Hannah is asking me approximately a million and a half questions, all while I'm trying to get Rebekah to relax (aka stop screaming) and snuggle with me. They now have a thing at our ped office where the first nurse takes you back, does measurements, etc. Then she leaves and you wait a few minutes (this time, the first nurse actually came in several times b/c she forgot stuff). Then another nurse comes in for like 20 seconds and you talk to her about the symptoms; she makes notes for the doctor and then leaves. THEN the doctor comes in sometime after that. Every time the door opened, Hannah was certain it would be the doctor and got more and more concerned when it wasn't.

I was getting tired and impatient, because, as I said, Rebekah has basically fussed for the last 48 hours and now I'm in this tiny room waiting for who knows how long for the doctor to grace us with her presence while my 3 yr old talks my ear off and randomly bothers her baby sister JUST as she's calming down.

Then we had the following conversation:

Hannah: Who are we waiting for NOW, Mommy?
Me: The doctor, sweetheart.
H: But why do we need to see the doctor? We already saw all the other ladies.
M: Yes, the nurses. Well, the nurses know a lot about how to help little children, but the doctors know even more.
H: Oh! About how to help Rebekah feel better?
M: That's right. The doctor who is coming in knows all about little children and how to take care of them.
H: Oh. Yeah. But I think you know that stuff too because you are a mommy and mommies know ALLLLL (stretches her arms wide) about taking care of little girls like me and Rebekah!...(long pause)...and mommies love them the best of all, don't they?
M: (smile) Yes, dear one.

:)

And with that reminder from my chatterbox of a child, the wait didn't seem so long after all.

LOVE! Don't you love these reminders of how we look through the eyes of our little ones, sweet and humbling.
Hope Rebekah feels better today!

Awwww :) it's the only pay we get, so it's a good thing it's pretty awesome, huh?

She's a sweetie.

And I'm encouraged to know that other people have 3 (Leiana is three until Saturday, doggone it) year olds who can talk the hind leg off a mule... and that I'm not the only parent who occasionally gets exasperated by it...
